Louisville mornings are about to get a whole lot more exciting!

Through April 29, Churchill Downs is opening its gates early, and for free, so fans can catch a behind-the-scenes look at the road to the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks during “Dawn at the Downs.”

From 6:45 to 10 a.m. each day, guests can watch some of the nation’s best 3-year-old Thoroughbreds train on the historic track. There’s even a special, can’t-miss window from 7:15 to 7:30 a.m. reserved just for Derby and Oaks contenders. Look closely: Derby horses will sport yellow saddle towels, while Oaks runners will be decked out in pink, each labeled with their names.

Parking is free and spectators will be guided to prime viewing spots in Sections 114–117 after entering through the Clubhouse Gate. Cars must be out by 10:30 a.m.

Want to elevate the experience? Monday offers a premium breakfast option in Millionaires Row or the Stakes Room.

All of this leads up to the main events: the Kentucky Oaks on Friday, May 1, and the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 2. Derby Week officially kicks off this Saturday at 12:45 p.m. with Opening Day of the Spring Meet.
