Book lovers across Central Kentucky are invited to stock up on free reads this month as International Book Project hosts its upcoming Free Book Friday event on May 29.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., community members can visit the nonprofit’s bookstore and warehouse at International Book Project Bookstore to browse hundreds of free fiction and nonfiction books for readers of all ages.

Guests may take up to one full bag of books before 5 p.m. Beginning at 5 p.m., there will be no limit on the number of books visitors can take home.

This quarter’s giveaway will feature a particularly strong selection of children’s books, making the event an excellent opportunity for teachers, parents, homeschool families, and young readers to build their home and classroom libraries at no cost.

International Book Project’s Free Book Fridays are designed to increase book access and ownership throughout Central Kentucky while also helping the organization rotate inventory and create space for books currently in highest demand by global partners.

Although no purchase is necessary to participate, donations are encouraged and help support the nonprofit’s literacy mission around the world. Visitors can also shop the organization’s regular bookstore inventory, where most books are priced at $5 or less. Merchandise including tote bags, pint glasses, and gift cards will also be available for purchase.

Founded in 1966, International Book Project has distributed more than 8 million books to 168 countries across every inhabited continent. The organization works to increase literacy, promote cultural understanding, and provide educational resources to communities with limited access to books and learning materials.
