Lexington Sporting Club (LSC) continued its winning streak Friday night with a 2-1 triumph over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, marking their second straight home victory and the first-ever meeting between the two clubs.
The home crowd at Lexington’s new stadium didn’t have to wait long for excitement. In the 13th minute, forward Forster Ajago opened the scoring after a sharp cross from Xavier Zengue, who surged up the right side and delivered a perfect ball into the box.
“I want the fans to expect us to win,” Zengue said after the match. “That’s the standard for this team.”
While the Switchbacks pushed forward with several attacking chances, LSC goalkeeper Brooks Thompson held firm, delivering key saves to keep the visitors off the board in the first half.
“I’m ecstatic right now,” said Thompson. “We had an amazing crowd tonight—it just feels really good to help the team get another three points.”
LSC extended their lead early in the second half, when a cross into the box was inadvertently turned into the net by Colorado’s Tyler Clegg, giving the home side a 2-0 advantage.
Colorado Springs pulled one back in the 74th minute with a goal from Matthew Mahoney, assisted by Jonas Fjeldberg, but Lexington stayed strong in the final minutes to close out the match and secure the win.
LSC Head Coach Terry Boss praised the performance. “Tonight was important to build momentum before we head into a tough away stretch. The belief is growing, and the group is coming together.”
Lexington SC will be back in action Saturday, June 28, as they travel to face the Richmond Kickers in the USL Jägermeister Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at City Stadium.
