Grammy-winning country artist Chris Stapleton, a Lexington, Kentucky-born musician with deep Appalachian roots, has partnered with Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley to unveil Traveller Whiskey Full Proof. Stapleton’s Kentucky background, steeped in bourbon culture and the musical heritage of the Bluegrass State, adds local resonance to the release.
The new expression, bottled at 121 proof, is a stronger take on the popular Traveller Whiskey Blend No. 40. It aims to deliver bolder flavor while preserving the original’s smooth and approachable character, with tasting notes ranging from caramelized sugar and toasted oak to baking spices and vanilla.
Stapleton explained the inspiration behind the higher-proof release: “Prior to collaborating with Harlen Wheatley and Buffalo Trace Distillery on Traveller Whiskey, I generally leaned toward higher-proof and barrel-strength bottles,” he said, noting that tastings with his band and friends helped make the 121-proof version an obvious choice. “It’s the same easy-to-drink DNA, just turned up a few notches.”
Wheatley said the elevated proof allowed deeper layers of the blend to emerge, calling it “a unique expression that every whiskey drinker should try.”
Traveller Whiskey Full Proof is available now in limited quantities nationwide, with a suggested retail price of $39.99 per 750ml bottle.
