With just under two months until the 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 2, Churchill Downs Racetrack has revealed the official on-track food and beverage menu for tens of thousands of guests attending “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.”
Senior Executive Chef Robert Lopez put together a lineup of Louisville-inspired dishes that highlights fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from nearby farms while honoring Derby traditions. “This year’s menu blends familiar favorites with exciting culinary twists,” Lopez said, promising both classic flavors and surprises to complement the event.
The menu showcases a blend of Southern and contemporary dishes set to be served across more than 25 dining areas throughout Churchill Downs, where over 100,000 guests will dine during Derby weekend. More than 100 Levy chefs will help deliver the food experience, supported by 17 full kitchens on site.
Among the on-track offerings are honey bourbon grilled chicken with roasted peach chutney, Kentucky BBQ shrimp with fava bean relish, and char-grilled short ribs topped with pomegranate and fennel. Lighter fare includes a green goddess pasta salad and kale salad with cider sorghum vinaigrette, and vegetarian options like farmstand vegetables with assorted dips.
Complementing the food lineup are signature Derby cocktails including the iconic Old Forester Mint Julep, the fruity Oaks Lily, the refreshing Woodford Spire, and the tequila-based Herradura Horseshoe Margarita.
Celebrity chefs such as Akhtar Nawab, Damaris Phillips, Fabio Viviani, Leah Cohen, Lorena Garcia, Rodney Scott, and Tristen Epps will also appear throughout the weekend serving exclusive culinary creations in premium areas like Club SI by Sports Illustrated, Spires Terrace and the Turf Club.
Churchill Downs says it will go through more than 5,000 pounds of short ribs, 4,000 pounds of shrimp, 6,000 pounds of carrots and a whopping 50,000 blackberries to keep everyone fed during the big weekend.
The 152nd Kentucky Derby® is part of the storied Triple Crown series dating back to 1875.
